Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will visit the Philippines from April 29 to 30 for his first bilateral meeting with President Marcos since taking office.
Key topics of discussion will include national security cooperation, maritime law enforcement, and the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) signed in July 2024, which is set to enter into force soon.
The leaders will also address Japan’s assistance to the Philippines, including the transfer of air surveillance radar systems and Official Security Assistance.
Other agenda items include strengthening Japan-Philippines cooperation in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, global trade, and the Mindanao peace process. Japan will also continue to support the Philippines’ development in areas like telecommunications, infrastructure, energy, climate change, and disaster preparedness.
