Phivolcs reported six volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island in the past 24 hours, along with sulfur dioxide emissions of 922 tons and plumes rising to 600 meters.
This marks a slight decrease in tremors from nine the previous day, but an increase in gas emissions.
Although the alert level was lowered from Level 3 to 2 on July 29, Phivolcs continues to warn against entry into the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone.
The downgrade allowed nearly 4,000 evacuees to return home, but over 94,000 people remain affected by the volcano’s unrest.
Authorities warn that sudden steam-driven explosions and other hazardous events remain possible despite the lower alert level.
