Beware of online shopping scams! Philippines tops Asia in online shopping fraud.
Filipinos are urged to be extra cautious when shopping online as the country has the highest rate of online shopping scams in Asia. This is according to the 2023 Asia Scam Report, which surveyed nearly 20,000 respondents across 11 Asian economies.
The report found that the Philippines has a shopping scam rate of 35.9%, significantly higher than the other countries surveyed. Scammers often target Filipinos during the Yuletide season, taking advantage of the increased volume of online shopping and people’s vulnerability.
Filipinos are also more likely to respond too quickly to scammers’ demands or take risks despite the uncertainty. To avoid falling victim to these scams, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) reminds the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to 1326.
