The Philippines will host the hybrid celebration of ASEAN Social Work Day 2025, recognizing the critical role of social workers in disaster risk reduction and climate change resilience across Southeast Asia.
Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized that social workers provide essential services during emergencies but their contributions are often overlooked in disaster planning and climate change adaptation.
The event will be attended by ASEAN Member States and development partners, highlighting social workers as key first responders during crises.
Gatchalian noted that being a social worker is a calling and a lifelong commitment to uplifting those in need.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) aims to continue empowering and recognizing social workers as integral to community resilience and disaster recovery.
