The Philippines has received an additional 9,151 metric tons raw value (MTRV) quota to export raw cane sugar to the United States, bringing its total allocation for the 2027 fiscal year to 154,386 MTRV.
The additional quota is part of the 1.12 million MTRV sugar volume covered by the US tariff-rate quota system for fiscal year 2027.
Sugar Regulatory Administration Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said the agency is seeking an extension from the US before making a formal commitment.
Azcona said the Philippines may not export raw sugar next crop year due to an expected 10 percent decline in production caused partly by the red-striped soft scale insect infestation.
Despite the production concerns, the Philippines has already shipped 99,538 MT of raw sugar to the US during the 2025-2026 crop year as of Sept. 6.
