The Philippines announced plans to evacuate 11,000 citizens from Lebanon if Israeli forces initiate a ground offensive against Hezbollah.
This comes as Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds have resulted in significant casualties, with the militant group retaliating with rocket attacks.
Foreign Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega stated that repatriation would occur via sea and emphasized that a ground invasion would trigger mandatory evacuation.
Despite earlier calls for citizens to leave Lebanon, many did not respond, with only 500 taking up the government’s offer to depart so far.
The conflict, which has escalated following Israel’s war with Hamas, has raised concerns about a broader regional war in the Middle East.
