PHILIPPINES DEFEATS THAILAND 2-1 IN HISTORIC ASEAN CUP SEMIFINALS WIN

The Philippines made history by defeating Thailand 2-1 in the first leg of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup semifinals, ending a 52-year winless streak against the regional powerhouse.

A dramatic last-minute goal secured the victory, with Kike Linares scoring the game-winner after a well-executed set piece in stoppage time.

The victory, witnessed by 7,116 fans at Rizal Memorial Stadium, put the Philippines in position to reach the finals for the first time since 1972.

The team’s resilience and fighting spirit were key to overcoming Thailand’s strong second-half assault.

Coach Albert Capellas praised the team’s performance, despite challenges.
