Top security officials from the Philippines and Malaysia convened in Makati City on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance regional security cooperation.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and Malaysia’s National Security Council Director General Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin led discussions to reinforce political, security, and economic relations between the two nations.

Both officials reaffirmed the commitment of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to deepen cooperation in these areas.

Año addressed the issue of undocumented Filipinos in Sabah, emphasizing the need to register them for access to social services, while Nushirwan supported the establishment of a bilateral platform to tackle this issue.

The meeting also revisited the trilateral agreement among the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia aimed at combating piracy and transnational crimes in their maritime borders.
