The Philippines has reiterated its commitment to resolving the South China Sea dispute with China through dialogue, as stated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Both countries emphasized peaceful resolutions through diplomacy during the 10th Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) meeting in Xiamen.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong held “frank and constructive” discussions on the issue, with the Philippines expressing concern over China’s recent activities in Philippine maritime zones.
The two nations agreed to continue cooperating on the rotational missions to BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal and work towards de-escalating tensions.
The meeting also saw agreements on strengthening coast guard cooperation and exploring marine scientific collaboration, with the Philippines set to host the next BCM.
