The Philippine Coast Guard vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua, which had been stationed at the disputed Escoda Shoal in the South China Sea for five months, has departed the area.
The ship was deployed to assert Manila’s claims and prevent Chinese encroachment, despite recent collisions with Chinese vessels and shortages of supplies.
China’s coast guard criticized the Philippine presence, asserting sovereignty over the area and warning against further actions that might undermine regional stability.
Philippine officials emphasized that the ship’s deployment was crucial in monitoring illegal activities and protecting the marine environment.
The Teresa Magbanua will return to the contested area after undergoing resupply and repairs, with the Philippines vowing to continue asserting its rights in the region.
