PH ACHIEVES TOP 3 FINISH IN GLOBAL STATISTICS COMPETITION

Three Filipinos from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) won third place at the 2025 International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) Young Statisticians Prize.

Their paper, titled “Real-time Monitoring of Household Final Consumption Expenditure of Pinoys Using Google Trends,” helped the Philippines climb six places on the competition’s medals table.

The contest received 24 submissions from 44 authors across 19 countries, with entries judged on scientific merit, originality, and applicability.

The first prize went to Statistics Canada’s Hanan Ather for a paper on record linkage using large language models.

Winners’ papers, including the PSA team’s, may be published in the Statistical Journal of the IAOS.
