The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that the Chinese Coast Guard’s largest vessel, CCG 5901, was spotted just 67 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales, within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The BRP Teresa Magbanua, a key PCG patrol vessel, underwent minor repairs in Bataan.
To address the situation, the PCG deployed an Islander aircraft to conduct aerial patrols and monitor the Chinese vessel’s movements.
During its mission, the PCG issued a stern radio challenge, asserting the illegality of the vessel’s presence under international law, including UNCLOS.
The PCG emphasized that Beijing has no legitimate claim over Philippine waters and demanded the vessel’s immediate departure.
