Former Senate President Franklin Drilon announced that the construction of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge project could begin as early as 2026.
He mentioned that preparations for the bidding documents are underway after South Korean firm Yooshin Engineering Corp. completed the detailed engineering design (DED).
The project, which has been discussed for over 50 years, first gained traction with a feasibility study funded by JICA in 1999.
Despite being put on hold in the 2000s and later revisited under President Aquino, the project was revitalized during the Duterte administration as part of the “Build, Build, Build” initiative.
In 2022, South Korea provided a $56.6-million loan for the DED, further advancing the project.
