The New Zealand government announced a NZ$5.2 million (approximately ₱175 million) grant to the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) to support a new five-year program in the Philippines.
This brings New Zealand’s total support for GCERF’s work in the country to NZ$8.2 million (around ₱277 million).
The funding aims to bolster community-based initiatives that prevent violent extremism and support peacebuilding, particularly in Mindanao.
New Zealand’s Ambassador to the Philippines emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder approaches and partnerships in sustaining peace efforts.
The grant will support rehabilitation, mental health services, economic opportunities, and transitional justice for communities affected by violent extremism.
