The MMDA released security footage on Thursday showing suspects allegedly stealing cables from NCAP CCTV cameras installed along the Guadalupe overpass in Makati.
The video, presented during the launch of the Metro Manila Road Safety Action Plan 2024–2028, showed individuals loitering before cutting and taking the wires.
MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the motive appears to be the resale value of the cables, not opposition to the NCAP system.
The theft, discovered on June 24, reportedly occurred on June 20 and caused technical issues with the cameras.
To prevent future incidents, the MMDA plans to add protective covers and warns that those who tamper with public property will face legal consequences.
