Over 2,000 progressive groups and organizations held Independence Day demonstrations along T.M. Kalaw Avenue in Ermita, Manila, on June 12.
The protesters voiced opposition to the Balikatan military exercises, citing their negative impact on livelihoods.
They also condemned increased U.S. military involvement in the Philippines and criticized its role in Israel’s attacks on Palestine.
Some participants called for the conviction of Vice President Sara Duterte amid her impeachment proceedings.
Manila Police District operatives managed the rally peacefully, and the protesters dispersed by early afternoon with no reported arrests or injuries.
