Mayor Alice Guo and two other officials of Bamban, Tarlac have been placed under preventive suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman amid an investigation into their alleged involvement in the illegal activities of a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub.
The suspension, which affects business permit and licensing officer Edwin Ocampo and municipal legal officer Adenn Sigua as well, will last up to six months during the investigation.
The Ombudsman cited strong evidence against the officials, who are accused of grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and gross neglect of duty.
Guo maintains her innocence and has pledged to cooperate with the investigation.
The case has also prompted scrutiny from the Senate and the Office of the Solicitor General, which is considering further legal action against Guo.
