Robin explained that the gesture was actually a sign of faith, not disrespect, as he recited the Kalima, the Muslim declaration of faith, while singing the national anthem.
Mariel shared a clearer photo on Facebook and emphasized that no laws were broken, citing Republic Act No. 8491 regarding flag salutes.
She stressed that Robin is both a devout Muslim and a proud Filipino whose faith strengthens his patriotism.
Mariel called the accusations of disrespect unfair, highlighting Robin’s deep love for the Philippines and his practice of carrying the national flag during travels.
