MARCOS SEEKS GLOBAL BACKING FOR PH UN SECURITY COUNCIL BID

PBBM urged global support for the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2027-2028, citing the country’s experience in peacebuilding and multilateral diplomacy.

Speaking at the Vin d’Honneur in Malacañang, he emphasized the importance of a rules-based international order and adherence to international law, particularly regarding the South China Sea.

The President highlighted the Philippines’ contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, with over 14,000 troops deployed in the past 60 years.

He also noted the country’s economic achievements, including a credit rating upgrade, robust revenue collection, and a significant drop in unemployment.

Marcos expressed optimism about the Philippines attaining upper-middle-income status and reiterated his vision of overseas work becoming a choice rather than a necessity for Filipinos.
