President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed stricter oversight and full transparency in the implementation of farm-to-market road (FMR) projects to prevent a repeat of past corruption, Malacañang said Monday.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President personally ordered probes into anomalous flood control and other infrastructure projects, stressing the need for a clean and orderly national budget.
She noted that FMR projects, now under the Department of Agriculture (DA) with local government units, will have open and public bidding processes supported by a transparency portal.
Castro addressed concerns that transferring the projects from the DPWH to the DA could merely shift corruption, assuring that stronger safeguards will be enforced.
She also confirmed Marcos was aware of DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon’s appeal to restore about ₱54 billion cut from the agency’s budget, warning that further reductions could delay nearly 10,000 projects.
