President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emphasized the urgent need for climate-resilient housing and flood control projects as the Philippines faces stronger cyclones.
During the turnover of housing for Super Typhoon Yolanda survivors, he instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to ensure flood control projects can withstand extreme weather conditions.
Marcos also called for sturdier housing designs from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) to better cope with climate challenges.
The government has completed housing projects in Leyte, Samar, and Biliran for Yolanda survivors, with over 1,900 units already distributed.
Additionally, Marcos highlighted the Loss and Damage Fund, where wealthy nations agreed to assist vulnerable countries like the Philippines, which continues to face the devastating impacts of climate change.
