The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) pledged to take concrete actions to protect the West Philippine Sea during the Araw ng Kagitingan observance.
At the West Philippine Sea Mural Festival 2026, Assistant Secretary Lilian de Leon emphasized that the issue involves sovereignty, livelihoods, environmental protection, and the future of Filipino communities.
The festival, themed “Kulayan ang Karagatan para sa Kalayaan,” highlighted Filipino courage and collective responsibility for maritime protection.
DILG’s program “Bayanihang Adhikain, Bayaning Aksiyon Para sa Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas” promotes localized advocacy and coordinated action through partner agencies, civil society, and ten coastal provinces.
The event brought together artists, students, volunteers, and government personnel to express patriotism and support for safeguarding the country’s maritime domain.
