President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the suspension of fare hikes for jeeps, buses, and other land transportation modes, which were set to take effect on March 19 due to rising oil prices from the Iran-Israel conflict.
Marcos said the fare increases are deferred indefinitely to continue supporting commuters, workers, and students.
The government will also expedite fuel subsidies for transport workers and implement free rides nationwide to ease the impact of rising fuel costs.
Discounts will be applied to MRT and LRT fares, and toll road rates are being reduced.
However, airfares are expected to rise as airlines are allowed to increase their surcharge rates.
