President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged newly promoted Armed Forces of the Philippines leaders to uphold national sovereignty as they assume greater responsibility.
A total of 42 generals and flag officers from the Army, Air Force, and Navy took their oath before Marcos at Malacañan Palace on December 18.
The president emphasized that their promotions reflect the nation’s trust in their integrity and professionalism, while reminding them of their duty to protect the country and its people.
Marcos highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain AFP discipline and competence through international training, defense partnerships, and joint exercises.
He also noted continued sovereignty challenges in the West Philippine Sea, where China has repeatedly encroached on Philippine waters despite a favorable ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
