The national government will provide over P100 million in aid to help Masbate recover from Typhoon Opong, following President Ferdinand Marcos’s order to release funds through the Department of Budget and Management.
During his visit to Masbate City, Marcos assured residents of continuous support, including food, medicine, and cash assistance until recovery is complete.
The typhoon caused significant damage, destroying over 2,400 homes and damaging more than 9,000, with 18 fatalities reported.
Marcos also directed the Department of Education to repair 806 damaged classrooms within a month. He visited the provincial hospital to oversee repairs and improvements, including the provision of generators and medical teams.
Additional aid includes P28 million for livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment and P3 million for hospital repairs from the Department of Health.
