Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is accelerating the completion of major transport infrastructure projects in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to turn public investments into tangible benefits for commuters and the economy.
He reported that of the P103.05-billion infrastructure budget for 2025, about 90.57 percent has already been obligated and 63.89 percent disbursed, while P74.5 billion has been allotted for infrastructure flagship projects in 2026.
Priority projects include the North–South Commuter Railway, Metro Manila Subway, MRT-7, the rehabilitation of MRT-3, and the modernization of the EDSA Busway, as well as transport systems in Cebu and Davao.
Lopez also cited ongoing airport upgrades such as the expansion of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the upcoming inaugurations of the Antique and Laoag airports, alongside efforts to make seaports more competitive and investment-ready.
He added that the new passenger terminal at Siargao Airport, set for completion in April, and the Port of Jubang cruise facility in Dapa, Surigao del Norte, will boost tourism and regional connectivity.
