Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the immediate revocation of all protocol license plates issued to Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials and attached agencies to stop the misuse of government privileges.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) was tasked to recall the plates, ensure compliance, and review Joint Administrative Order 2024-001 governing their issuance.
Lopez also banned the use of sirens, blinkers, and “wang-wang” by officials, aligning with President Marcos Jr.’s directive limiting such devices to emergency responders.
The move follows a viral incident involving a DOTr undersecretary’s driver who used an unauthorized “No. 10” protocol plate and flashing lights.
The crackdown underscores efforts to promote road discipline and accountability among public officials.
