Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. has ordered an immediate halt to all quarry operations lacking permits from the provincial mining regulatory board (PMRB).
He expressed concern over the environmental damage and community safety risks posed by unregulated quarrying.
The governor also emphasized the importance of replanting trees cut during quarry activities to prevent flooding and landslides.
The surge in quarry permit applications, especially in Masiu town, aligns with increased infrastructure spending and Marawi City’s rebuilding efforts.
Provincial officials identified several towns with active quarry sites, while former quarry operations in Marawi City have since closed.
