Kanlaon Volcano in Negros erupted early Tuesday morning, April 8, releasing a 4,000-meter-high ash plume and triggering pyroclastic density currents on its southern slopes, according to Phivolcs.
The eruption began at 5:51 a.m. and led authorities to maintain Alert Level 3, signaling a high possibility of further eruptions.
Winds are carrying the ash southwest, prompting warnings to nearby communities to take precautionary measures.
Pyroclastic flows, which consist of hot gas, ash, and debris, pose serious threats due to their speed and intensity.
Phivolcs continues to closely monitor the volcano’s activity and urges residents to stay alert.
