Kanlaon Volcano erupted early Tuesday morning on Negros Island, producing a five-minute “moderate explosion” that sent a 3-kilometer plume into the air, according to Phivolcs.
The eruption generated pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) that flowed down the southern slopes and scattered large volcanic fragments near the crater, igniting summit vegetation.
Ashfall was reported in several villages, including La Carlota City and Bago City. Phivolcs has maintained Alert Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest and the potential for more hazardous eruptions.
Communities within a 6-kilometer radius have been urged to stay evacuated due to ongoing threats from PDCs, ashfall, and rockfall.
