GOVERNMENT SET TO DEPLOY $24.9 MILLION PANDEMIC RELIEF FUND

The Philippine government is set to implement a $24.9 million Pandemic Fund in the first quarter of this year to enhance the country’s preparedness for future health threats.

The grant, secured to address both human and animal health, will be jointly managed by the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the Department of Health (DOH).

DA spokesman Arnel de Mesa confirmed that the funds are currently with the World Bank and are being facilitated for release.

The funding will help improve laboratories and support the training of veterinarians to handle pandemics such as African swine fever and avian influenza.

The Philippines is one of 50 countries selected to receive part of the $547 million Pandemic Fund, established by the G20 in 2022.
