Gilas Pilipinas faces a daunting challenge in the Asian Qualifiers for the FIBA World Cup 2027, landing in a stacked Group A alongside World No. 7 Australia, No. 22 New Zealand, and No. 88 Guam.
Despite the tough draw, Gilas remains hopeful, having previously beaten New Zealand 93-89 at home, though they suffered a recent 87-70 loss to the Tall Blacks.
Australia and the Philippines have a tense history, including their infamous 2018 bench-clearing brawl. Guam also poses a challenge with PBA player Jericho Cruz in its lineup.
The qualifiers will span six windows from November 2025 to March 2027, with the top teams advancing through multiple rounds for a shot at the World Cup.
