Vice President Sara Duterte has appointed former Department of Trade and Industry undersecretary Ruth Castelo as spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
Castelo emphasized her role is to highlight the OVP’s accomplishments and programs, portraying the Vice President as a strong national leader with important duties.
She has a background hosting a consumer rights radio program and served under former President Rodrigo Duterte’s entire term at the DTI.
Castelo also announced that the OVP will not request confidential funds in its proposed 2026 budget, which totals around P903 million after adjustments by the Department of Budget and Management.
This decision follows controversies over alleged misuse of confidential funds by the OVP and Department of Education during previous years, when Duterte also served as education secretary.
