The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has opened the Philippines’ first rehabilitation center exclusively for girls in conflict with the law, located in Cebu.
During the inauguration, Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized that the facility must not remain the only one of its kind, calling on DSWD regional offices to replicate the model nationwide.
The center, developed in partnership with various government agencies and civic groups, provides a therapeutic environment with dormitories, counseling rooms, and areas for education and development.
Gatchalian said the project is part of a broader effort to give at-risk youth a second chance through meaningful rehabilitation.
He also highlighted the DSWD’s ongoing reforms, referencing the recent launch of the country’s first agri-camp for children in conflict with the law.
