The Philippines confirmed its first H5N2 avian influenza outbreak in Barangay San Nicolas, Talisay, Camarines Norte, where 15 ducks tested positive among 428 susceptible birds.
The outbreak began on Nov. 11 and was announced publicly on Dec. 11 after laboratory confirmation.
Surveillance in areas outside the restricted zone is still pending, but 136 barangays across five regions have reported bird flu cases.
The Department of Agriculture assured the public that the outbreak poses a low risk to humans and will not affect egg and chicken meat prices.
Additionally, a temporary ban on poultry imports from New Zealand has been imposed due to an unrelated H7N6 outbreak.
