Thousands of residents in 28 isolated island barangays across the Philippines will soon gain access to clean and safe drinking water through a ₱43.5-million government water filtration project.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will install 10 desalination units and 18 freshwater filtration systems by the end of 2025, prioritizing communities with populations over 1,000.
Each desalination system costs around ₱2.775 million, while freshwater filtration units are priced at ₱875,000.
This initiative, part of the Marcos administration’s Integrated Water Resource Management Policy, aims to improve water access in areas affected by scarcity and climate change.
Additionally, a water supply project in Homonhon Island, Eastern Samar, is nearing completion to provide a reliable community water system.
