An 89-member Philippine humanitarian contingent has returned from a two-week mercy mission to earthquake-hit Myanmar, where they aided in search, rescue, and medical efforts.
The team, composed of personnel from the Philippine military, MMDA, BFP, DENR, and DOH, treated over 1,000 patients and provided mental health support in devastated areas.
Their mission also included locating four missing Filipinos and delivering clean drinking water to displaced communities.
Health Secretary Herbosa and Defense Secretary Teodoro Jr. praised the group’s bravery, compassion, and embodiment of the Filipino spirit of Bayanihan.
This was the first international deployment of the DOH’s WHO-certified Pemat team and underscored the Philippines’ growing role in regional disaster response.
