The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warns that some areas in the Philippines could experience extreme danger heat index, with temperatures reaching 52°C and above.
This high heat index is likely due to the El Niño phenomenon. PAGASA’s Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section chief, Ana Liza Solis, mentioned that direct sun exposure during such extreme heat can lead to heat stroke.
Additionally, areas near coastal regions have historically recorded high heat indices in April and May. The regions forecasted to experience high heat indices next month include Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Cavite, and Batangas.
PAGASA advises the public to drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and avoid tea, soda, and alcohol to prevent dehydration
