A series of loud explosions and a smoke trail seen over Palawan on Monday evening were linked to China’s Long March 12 rocket launch, authorities confirmed.
The Philippine Coast Guard reported five thunderous booms heard off eastern Palawan, while the NBI traced the sounds to sonic booms from the rocket’s stage separation.
The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) said the rocket’s trajectory passed near Palawan, with potential debris zones identified off Puerto Princesa and Cagayancillo.
No damage or injuries were reported, but local and national agencies remain on alert as debris recovery and risk assessments continue.
Palawan officials have called for a national security briefing amid rising concerns over repeated foreign rocket overflights near Philippine territory.
