Resigned Ako Bicol Party-List congressman Zaldy Co reportedly fears returning to the Philippines due to threats against his life, his lawyer Ruy Rondain said on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Rondain claimed that Co is particularly concerned about potential vigilante violence, noting that public sentiment appears highly hostile toward him.
The lawyer also expressed concern that the Office of the Ombudsman has already prejudged Co’s case regarding alleged involvement in anomalous government flood control projects.
Despite an order from the Ombudsman directing Co to file a counter-affidavit, Rondain said the former lawmaker does not intend to comply at this time.
Rondain further denied allegations that Co received kickbacks from the projects, stating he only knew of two aides who worked for the former congressman.
