The European Union (EU) has announced the release of EUR200,000 (approximately PHP12.4 million) in emergency assistance to aid the Philippines in recovering from the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng, also known as Typhoon Yagi. T
his funding is part of a broader EUR2.2 million aid package designated for Southeast Asian countries severely affected by the storm.
Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič expressed condolences for the victims and their families, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to support affected communities.
The emergency assistance will also benefit Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos, with Myanmar receiving the largest share of EUR 1.2 million.
The EU has also utilized the Copernicus Emergency Satellite Mapping Service to assess damage, as Typhoon Yagi has resulted in significant destruction and approximately 500 fatalities, primarily in Vietnam and Myanmar.
