The European Union has released more than €1.25 million (around ₱85 million) in humanitarian aid to support communities devastated by tropical cyclones Tino and Uwan, which have caused hundreds of deaths, millions of displacements, and widespread destruction across the Philippines.
A portion of the funds—€250,000 or ₱17 million—will be coursed through the Philippine Red Cross to provide shelter materials, essential household items, cash assistance, and support for health, water, and sanitation needs.
The EU said the aid forms part of its broader contribution to global disaster response funds and comes alongside the activation of EU-funded preparedness and anticipatory action programs on the ground.
With this latest tranche, the bloc’s total humanitarian and disaster-preparedness support to the Philippines this year has reached €8.5 million (₱578.6 million), following earlier releases for typhoon and earthquake emergencies.
The aid comes as authorities grapple with the heavy toll of Typhoons Tino and Uwan, which together have killed more than 250 people, displaced over 4.5 million residents, and inflicted nearly ₱744 million in agricultural losses.
