The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) warned public school teachers about a surge in phishing emails targeting their Department of Education (DepEd) accounts ahead of the year-end bonus season.
Scammers often disguise these messages as coming from legitimate institutions like the Land Bank of the Philippines, asking recipients to verify accounts or update personal information.
Rizal teacher Mia Lozano fell victim to one such scam, losing P230 after entering her details into a fake verification link.
TDC Chair Benjo Basas noted that similar scams have targeted nearly 100 teachers in 2022, with losses ranging from P5,000 to over P100,000.
The group urged DepEd and Land Bank to issue advisories, strengthen security, and reminded teachers to stay vigilant, ignore suspicious links, and report phishing attempts.
