Alex Eala is aiming for her third consecutive quarterfinal appearance at the WTA125 Jingshan Open in Hubei, China, where she will face Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi in the Round of 16.
As the tournament’s No. 1 seed and ranked No. 58 in the WTA, Eala holds a significant ranking advantage over Yamaguchi, who is ranked No. 268.
Eala recently defeated Aliona Falei in straight sets, while Yamaguchi advanced with a win over Hong Yi Cody Wong.
A victory would set Eala up for a quarterfinal match against either China’s Jia-Jing Lu or India’s Riya Bathia.
Eala will continue her season with two more WTA125 events in China before potentially representing the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games this December.
