The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured commuters that free rides will be provided during the transport strikes led by groups Piston and Manibela from Wednesday to Friday.
DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez said agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), have prepared vehicles to assist stranded passengers.
He noted that coordination with local agencies began as early as Sunday to ensure readiness.
Manibela’s three-day strike is in protest of fuel excise taxes and alleged government corruption, while Piston will stage a one-day strike on Thursday over similar issues.
Lopez emphasized that the government is committed to minimizing inconvenience for commuters during the protests.
