The Department of Transportation has ordered the Land Transportation Office to halt the confiscation of drivers’ licenses and extend the period for settling traffic violations.
The settlement period is now 15 working days, excluding weekends and holidays, to give motorists more time to comply.
Secretary Giovanni Lopez also instructed the LTO to review all related policies to ensure consistency.
The directive follows public criticism after vlogger James Deakin highlighted difficulties in settling a traffic citation during the holidays.
The DOTr emphasized that the changes aim to make the process fairer for both the public and the government.
