Four Filipino seafarers remain under investigation in South Korea following a record-breaking drug bust by the Korea Coast Guard, while 16 others have been repatriated to the Philippines.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed that the agency provides legal assistance to the four seafarers under investigation.
The 16 repatriated seafarers arrived in two batches on May 11 and 12 and were given financial and psychosocial support by the DMW.
The seafarers were then handed over to their manning agency for debriefing and further assistance, while the DMW coordinates with the shipowner for their financial compensation.
The investigation follows the discovery of over two tons of suspected cocaine aboard the M/V Lunita, marking South Korea’s largest drug seizure.
