DIZON SET TO TAKE THE STAND IN GHOST FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT CASE

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon is set to testify before the Sandiganbayan on Jan. 20 in the trial over an alleged ghost flood control project in Oriental Mindoro that implicates former congressman Zaldy Co.

Dizon said his court appearance is part of the government’s continuing effort to hold accountable those involved in anomalous public works projects, adding that he is the complainant in several similar cases.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) is intensifying its probe into eight seized luxury vehicles allegedly linked to Co, which were found to have deficiencies in duties and taxes and no certificates of payment.

Customs officials said the cars, valued at more than P145 million, may have entered the country through unlawful importation or misdeclaration, and case filing will “definitely” follow.

Authorities are also searching for a ninth vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and are coordinating with the police Highway Patrol Group to locate it.
