DEPED EYES MAKEUP CLASSES AS MONSOON DISRUPTS SCHOOLING

Education Secretary Sonny Angara announced that the Department of Education (DepEd) is considering implementing makeup classes to address the significant learning loss caused by class suspensions due to monsoon-related flooding.

Depending on teachers ‘ availability, these sessions may be held on Saturdays or after regular class hours.

Angara also emphasized the need to boost student proficiency in literacy and math through the ARAL program, which offers personalized tutorials for struggling learners.

As class suspension authority was clarified, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) noted that both DepEd and LGUs can issue suspension orders based on weather conditions.

Local governments in Parañaque and Navotas have already suspended classes today, July 23, due to continued heavy rains.
