The Department of Agriculture (DA) is introducing typhoon-resistant farm infrastructure to stabilize chili pepper prices, which often spike after storms damage crops.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the move aims to make chili production more predictable amid the Philippines’ volatile weather.
The DA plans to use storm-resistant greenhouses and expand chili cultivation beyond traditional areas to increase supply.
Baseline data on consumption, production, and yields will guide planting strategies and scaling of production.
Weekly public updates on chili prices and supply will also be provided to ensure transparency and support farmers, retailers, and food businesses.
